One unit of platelets can carry a child through a chemo cycle. Register once — we call you when a child near you needs your group.
Any healthy adult aged 18–65, weighing at least 50kg, with hemoglobin above 12.5g/dL can donate. Bring a valid photo ID to the donation camp or hospital blood bank — the whole process takes about 30 minutes.
Platelets regenerate faster than red cells, so you can donate platelets (apheresis) every 2 weeks, up to 24 times a year — compared to whole blood, which needs a gap of about 3 months between donations.
Eat a light meal and stay well-hydrated in the hours before donating, and get a good night's sleep. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand, and let the staff know about any medication you're currently taking.
You may be temporarily deferred if you have a fever or infection, a recent tattoo or piercing (within the last 6 months), or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Chronic conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heart disease may lead to a longer deferral — our screening team will guide you at the camp.
